ABOUT THE NHL
The Negaunee Hockey League (NHL) is an adult recreational hockey league based at the Negaunee Ice Arena in Negaunee, Michigan. The NHL has operated in its current structure since 1986. All players must be at least 18 years old to join the League.
The League has two divisions based on age, skill level, and league needs: Division 1 is generally younger, faster, and more highly skilled, while Division 2 is typically older or more novice players. Each team plays one game, two days per week, on Sunday and Wednesday nights. The season usually runs from early October through the end of March.
Unlike many leagues, NHL players register as individuals rather than teams. Teams are drafted each season with the goal of creating the most balanced competition possible. Registration is open year-round, but teams are drafted based on the fall deadline; players who register afterward are placed on a waiting list until a spot becomes available.
